On Wednesday, we were able to visit a 조계사 (Jogyesa, a Buddhist temple) as part of our culture class. Although I had just recently visited a temple that Monday with some friends, this experience was slightly more in-depth as the participants in the activity were able to ask questions to a monk and partake in drinking some lotus tea (which was so delicious!).
Although we only had about 15 minutes to ask some questions, I tried my best to listen to the answers provided in an attempt to better understand the religion of Buddhism as well as how the religion has influenced/has been influenced by Korean culture.
We also had the opportunity to make some homemade crafts while we were there. However, I can't spoil what they were because I am going to give mine away to a certain someone as a present (특별한 사람? 누구? 알아요?). :)
After our brief temple experience, we had some time to explore the surrounding area, 인사동 (Insadong), which was perfect for buying gifts for friends and family members. The streets were lined with small shops and food businesses, the shouts of competitors making me laugh once in a while.
It was a great day, however, and I accomplished a lot... Soon, it was time to head back to campus and prepare for the next day!
